Dentistry Students Visit Orphanage, Kindergarten to Foster Oral Healthcare Awareness

 

 

It has always been among the top priorities of the Tishk International University to contribute to community’s social and humanitarian services in the best possible way.

 

Faculty of Dentistry organized a series of activities to enhance oral healthcare awareness among children, both in kindergarten and orphanages.

 

Organized by Dr. Rojan Arif and Dr. Lana Burhan Jaff, on 23rd Jan/20th Feb-2019, Pedodontic Department treated all the children of the orphanage who needed dental treatments.

 

On 14th February, 3rd-grade students took part at a campaign to deliver cloths and gifts to orphanage children, funded by Saz Jaff. Later on 17th July, a Fun Factory activity was organized during which the children from orphanage enjoyed a lunch time and experienced different environment away from their routines.

 

Later, on 5th August 2019, some 600,000 IQD (approximately $500) was collected by volunteer donors for the children from the orphanage. The fund was used as a gift during feast so to help the receivers with new clothings.

 

Furthermore, TIU’s Faculty of Dentistry paid a visit to Ishık Brayati kindergarten on 24th October 2019, in which Polyclinic Director Dr. Lezan Dawood, head of Pedodontic Department Dr. Bushra Rashid, Pedodontic Department staff and a group of fifth grade students participated in the event.

 

Oral examination and fluoride varnish application were done for the children, who were also introduced to home-care instructions as well as live demonstration of tooth brushing techniques.

 

A week later, on 30th October, Faculty of Dentistry paid a second visit to the kindergarten. The TIU team examined dental cavity of 130 five-year-old children. Also, Fluroide vanish application and home-care instructions were given to the young children after live demonstration on how to brush teeth correctly.
