International Workshop on Creativity and Innovation Week in Iraq, Kurdistan – 2024

 

Shayan: In a collaborative effort to promote creativity and innovation, Tishk International University and Erbil Polytechnic University jointly organized an international workshop during World Creativity and Innovation Week in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. This initiative aimed to provide a platform for students to enhance their creative and problem-solving skills through interactive sessions and practical exercises.

Hosted by Tishk International University, the workshop was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, President of Tishk International University, and Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhammad Harki, President of Erbil Polytechnic University, alongside deans, vice deans, heads of departments, lecturers, and students. The event marked a significant milestone in promoting academic excellence and collaborative learning. The workshop began with warm welcome speeches by both university presidents, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi and Prof. Dr. Edrees Muhammad Harki.

Mr. Fayaq Ali, Head of the Business and Management Department, followed with an opening speech that outlined the workshop’s agenda and objectives. His address set the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions and practical activities designed to nurture creativity and innovation among the participants.

A highlight of the event was the keynote address by the esteemed guest of honor, Prof. Dr. Jim Freidman, a Creativity Professor at Miami University and Chief Steward of World Creativity & Innovation Week/Day. His inspiring speech on global creativity and innovation paved the way for a series of engaging discussions.

The workshop was hosted by Mr. Nyaz Abdulla, with Dr. Abdulla Nabeel serving as moderator, guiding the discussions. The event brought together a distinguished panel of experts, including Mr. Abdulsalam Madani, CEO of Rwanga Foundation; Zanear Jabbar, a university lecturer and ambassador of World Creativity and Innovation Week in Iraq, Kurdistan; and Ms. Hedi Kamala, an entrepreneurship expert and board member in Iraq. They shared their expertise on various aspects of creativity, innovation, problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurship.

The workshop featured interactive sessions where students from both universities actively participated. These hands-on sessions allowed students to collaborate with peers, engaging in practical exercises and exploring innovative solutions to complex problems.

During the lunch break, participants had the opportunity to network with each other, as well as with the panelists and faculty members. This informal setting fostered connections and facilitated the exchange of ideas, enhancing the collaborative learning experience.

In the afternoon session, students were divided into groups for practical exercises and team-building activities, including brainstorming games and real-life case study analysis. Faculty members from both universities provided guidance and support, encouraging students to think critically and creatively as they worked together to solve the challenges presented.

At the end of the workshop, certificates of participation were awarded to both students and lecturers in recognition of their active involvement and contributions. This gesture acknowledged their commitment to fostering a culture of creativity and innovation within their academic communities.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks that emphasized the importance of cultivating creativity and innovation in academic settings.
